“Friends and family, I regret to inform you that my Father, Miguel Ángel López Días, Rey Misterio Sr., passed away this morning…I will keep you informed. Thank you,” the statement read. A cause of death has not been revealed.

Mexican wrestling promotion Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide also expressed its condolences, stating, “We mourn the sensitive passing of Miguel Ángel López Días, known as Rey Misterio Sr. We send our deepest condolences to your loved ones and lift our prayers to heaven for your eternal rest.”

Rey Misterio Sr. was a trailblazer in the wrestling world. Starting his career as a boxer, he transitioned into professional wrestling in 1976, making a mark in promotions such as Pro Wrestling Revolution, Tijuana Wrestling, World Wrestling Association (WWA), and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.

His legendary status was further cemented when he represented Mexico in the “Pat O’Connor Memorial International Cup” at the World Championship Wrestling’s Starrcade event in 1990, teaming up with fellow icon Konnan.
